The International Italian Food Day is celebrated every year on 17 January, on the initiative of Italian food professionals (chefs, waiters, restaurant managers, etc.) working abroad. The aim of the Day is to defend Italian cuisine and its products, to inform the public about authentic and quality Italian food and to protect consumers from restaurants labelled “Italian”. 17 January, chosen as International Italian Food Day, is also the feast day of Saint Anthony, one of Italy’s most popular saints, patron saint of butchers and sausage makers, among others.
