Visiting Athens with a baby can be a delightful experience. Here’s a list of some of the best things to do and see, along with helpful tips to make the trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible for the whole family.

Family-Friendly Attractions and Outdoor Spaces

National Garden

  • Why Go: Located in the heart of Athens, the National Garden is an ideal spot for a leisurely walk with a stroller. It’s a quiet, shaded oasis with paved paths, small lakes, a mini-zoo, and, maybe the best playground of the city!
  • Parent Perk: Plenty of shaded benches for feeding or taking a break, as well as spots for a quick diaper change.

Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC)

  • Why Go: This cultural center offers expansive, stroller-friendly gardens, fountains, and shaded areas. The SNFCC often has baby-friendly events, and the views of Athens from the park are lovely for photos with your little one.

  • Why Go: While the Acropolis itself might be tricky with a stroller, the Acropolis Museum is a great alternative. It’s spacious, air-conditioned, and has ramps and elevators. You can also rent a baby carrier to make navigation easier.

If the weather is warm, consider spending a day at one of the beaches along the Athens Riviera. Many beaches, like Alimos and Glyfada, have shallow, gentle waves perfect for wading with a baby, as well as shaded umbrellas, bathrooms, and changing facilities. Some beach clubs even offer lounges and play areas for families, making it easy to relax while your baby naps to the sound of the sea.

Little Creators in Gerakas and Ktima Aristi in Chalandri are two examples  of similar theme parks that have also activities for babies from around three months old and older. Usually the activities are seasonal, like Halloween activities, nature activities,  messy play etc

If you are more adventurous family and you love hiking an being in nature, there are many easy paths to make with a baby carrier in Parnitha, Imittos and Penteli, the athenian mountains.   • Why Go: While much of the museum is geared toward young children, they offer sensory play areas that can engage infants as well. It’s a safe, colorful space for them to crawl and explore. Check the calendar of the museum as usually there are special group activities for babies from 3 months old.

Basil & Elise Goulandris  Foundation

  • Why Go: The B&E Goulandris Foundation’s interactive music programme “Time for music at the Museum!”, held in collaboration with the De Profundis Ensemble, is organized for the third consecutive year.   • Parent Perk: The program is addressed to children from 8 months old up to 2.5 years old and a parent/guardian, inviting them to get acquainted with the Museum and its Collection of artworks through music.

  • Why Go: Most of the cafes in Athens are designed for older kids, but you could find some that babies could find them amusing, offering soft play areas, changing facilities, and toys. Some examples are Gymboree in  Nea Erythrea area, Fundom in Peristeri area, Paramythi in Nea Ionia, Active Babies in  Zografou, Ta xromata tis Iridas in Kesariani, and of course Little Cook and Cap Cap, the themes cafe which are always welcomed for people of all ages. Baby theater in Athens

Every year there are plenty of  theater plays specially designed for babies from around 6 months to 3 years old. Take place in Athens Concert Hall, Avaton Theater in Keramikos area, Theatro Imeras in Ampelokipoi or else. Yes, usually those plays are in greek language, but in fact there isn’t lot of speech but more music and dance, so everyone could attend it.

Shopping Malls in Athens

  • Why Go: Shopping malls like Riverwest, The Mall Athens and Golden Mall are well equipped with nursing facilities, playroom for babies too, and restaurants where  you could spend the day  together.
  • Parent Perk: These malls provide a safe, relaxing spot where you could have a shopping experience together with your baby,  and then eat all together in one of the restaurants, before or after visiting the playroom.

  • Public Transport: Buses and the metro in Athens are generally stroller-accessible, and many stations now have elevators. However, carrying a baby carrier or foldable stroller can make things easier on busier routes.

Sample Itinerary for a Day with an Infant in Athens

Morning: Start with a stroller-friendly stroll in the National Garden, followed by a visit to the Acropolis Museum. Take a break at the museum’s cafe and enjoy the view of the Acropolis or in one of the cafes of the pedestrian streets of Koukaki.

Afternoon: Head to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) for lunch, then spend the afternoon relaxing in the gardens or watching one of the scheduled performances. The fountains and open spaces are a hit with little ones.

Evening: Wrap up your day with a sunset walk along Flisvos Marina, where you can take in the seaside views. Dine at one of the family-friendly restaurants there before heading back to your home.
