On 1869, February 17th,  the first test run of the urban railway steam-powered for the route Athens – Piraeus is carried out. An 153-year anniversary of the Greek railway is celebrated today.

Few years ago, the Athens Railway Museum moved behind Piraeus train station, in the old engine room of Piraeus, in the historical building of Rotonda, and this new museum consists of 12 different buildings and open-air installations located next to the auxiliary tracks. In the new Railway Museum in Piraeus you can see historical wagons rare archival material uniforms and photographs of the daily life of railwaymen, clocks, telegraph machines, tables with timetable and instruments used by the historical steam locomotives etc. In addition to the railway exhibits, the Rotunda’s space also features occasionally works by students and graduates of the ASFA, who participated in the art competition for the “150 Years of Greek Railways” some years ago.
