Travel Guide & Transport Information

Ilisia area is located close to Syntgma square. It is a mainly business area, but you can also meet many students around as it is near to many major universities of Athens. Plenty of traditional and modern cuisine restaurants, bars and even travel facilities such as luggage storage and public laundries are available in the area.

Transport Information

The Megaro Mousikis Metro (subway) Station is located in Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, and it will be your main transport to move around your city. In the same avenue, there are plenty of bus and trolley links connecting you to Syntagma Square, the Port of Piraeus and the Athenian coastline.

Local Sights

The area is known mainly for Athens Concert Hall, as well as the brand new building of National Gallery.

• Athens Concert Hall (Megaro Mousikis)– The major event venue of Athens. You will meet mostly classical music concerts, but also modern by Greek or international artists.
• National Gallery – It was before few years that moved here, in a really impressive building. Don’t miss out to visit it and attend some of the official guided tour, seeing permanent or temporary exhibitions.
• Alsos Ilison – Even if Ilisia is a mostly urban area, this is a small green oasis where you can have your walk, running or just have a break from the grey colours of the city.
• Panathenaic Stadium / Kalimarmaron – Home of the first modern Olympic Games and the finish line of the Marathon

• Ta Skalakia – Dionisiou Eginitou 32, Athens. Typical greek tavern, in a unique location where the summer is perfect to sit outside under the shadow of trees and you won’t feel the heat of athenian summer.

• Kitrinos Skiouros  – Dimitressa 21, Athens. A cute small restaurant with recipes from Brazil.

• Rock Architecture – Oulof Palme 23, Zografou, Athens. One of the oldest bars of Athens, usually with some live event. Probably you will meet many students here.
• Mojo Club – Papadiamantoupoulou 36 Athens. An all-day cafe & bar where you can start your day here with your first coffee and ending up with some cocktail.

Recommended Cafes

Greeks do enjoy their coffee regularly. Don’t forget to try the iced espresso drinks such as Fredo Espresso or Fredo Cappucino.

• LOT51 – Papadiamantopoulou 24B, Athens. If you were looking where to eat you breakfast or your brunch in this area, don’t look out anymore. This is your place!
• L’ Arrêt Du Temps – Leof. Vasileos Alexandrou 5-7, Athens. A cozy french bistrot, ideal to start your day there.

Shopping

There are multiple small shops and supermarkets in Ilisia area. From souvenir shops to anything you can imagine. The two streets below are the streets where you will find most of the shops. Cloudkeys provides key local markets worth visiting.
