18 April each year has been designated by UNESCO and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) as the International Day for Monuments and Sites.

This anniversary aims to raise public awareness on the important issue of the protection of Cultural Heritage. To this end, all kinds of events are organised throughout the world, which seek not only to make the general public aware of the importance of the monuments of each country and their problems, but also to promote the case for their protection and their integration into modern social, cultural and economic life.

The theme of the 2023 celebration “Heritage Changes” highlights the urgent need to address the effects of climate change on historic monuments and sites.

On Tuesday 18 April 2023, entrance to archaeological sites, museums and monuments in Greece that are under public authority (Ministry of Culture and Sports) is free of charge.
