Tip of the day 21/8/2022 – World Lighthouse Day

World Lighthouse Day was established in 2003 at the initiative of the International Association of Lighthouse Keepers and has been celebrated every year since then on the third Sunday of August. This year, the Navy is commemorating this day on Sunday 21 August and as every year, visits to some of the country’s lighthouses will take place. So, on the occasion of this year’s World Lighthouse Day, citizens will have the opportunity to visit 28 lighthouses located in the country and learn about their operation, their importance as heritage sites, their contribution to navigation safety, the country’s lighthouse network and the contribution of lighthouse keepers to it.

So, some of the lighthouses that are close to Athens are:

Vrysaki – Lavrion
Melagavi – Loutraki
Kaki Kefali – Chalkida
Ag. Nikolaos – Kea
