Events for the 100th anniversary of Divina’s birth, in the framework of the UNESCO Maria Callas 2023 anniversary year of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maria Callas, the National Opera is planning a series of events to honour the leading soprano of the 20th century, under the artistic direction of George Koumentakis.

The National Opera not only honors the great Greek soprano who made her country famous in every corner of the globe, but also shines the spotlight on one of its greatest founding members, as Maria Callas signed her first contract with the Opera in 1940, a few months after its founding in 1939 by the enlightened Costis Bastia as part of the National (then Royal) Theatre of Greece.
