Legendary American guitarist and composer Marc Ribot at St Paul’s Sessions 5, introducing for the first time his new trio The Jazz Bins, consisting of Greg Lewis on hammond and Joe Dyson on drums, at the brand new “Ioannis Despotopoulos” Amphitheatre of the Athens Conservatory.

Marc Ribot was born in 1954 in New Jersey, USA, where as a teenager he studied alongside his mentor, classical guitarist Frantz Casseus from Haiti, while playing in garage bands.

In 1978 he moved to New York and joined the soul/punk band The Realtones, and later performed with Brother Jack McDuff, Wilson Pickett, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Chuck Berry and others.

In 1984 and for five years he joined John Lurie’s The Lounge Lizards, while at the same time he participated in typical soundtracks such as Jim Jarmush’s “Mystery Train” and “Down by law”, James Mangold’s “Walk the line” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed”, among others.

In 1985 his introduction to the great Tom Waits found them in the studio together for the recording of the famous album “Rain Dogs”. From then on he became his main collaborator and guitarist, taking part in his subsequent recordings and rare live performances.

With a multitude of subsequent collaborations, ranging from Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, Solomon Burke, Allen Toussaint, Neko Case, Diana Krall, Marianne Faithful to Laurie Anderson, Caetano Veloso, McCoy Tyner, Medeski, Martin & Wood, John Zorn and most recently Norah Jones, The Black Keys, Elton John/Leon Russell, Marc Ribot is a restless figure of high artistic stature, while being one of the most sought-after session guitarists of recent decades, with his name consistently appearing on annual lists of the top guitarists of all time.

At the same time, Marc Ribot records and tours non-stop with Ceramic Dog and The Young Philadelphians, forming a tireless worker who is always inventing new ways to bring out new musical trends.

His newly formed trio The Jazz Bins, consisting of American Greg Lewis on hammond organ and Joe Dyson on drums, brings back memories of the old days when he shared the stage with hammond organ legend Jack McDuff back in 1979.

Greg Lewis, is not only one of the greatest living hammond organ virtuosos, with Ribot himself describing, “Greg is New York’s best kept secret. He can tell a story about the hammond organ like no one else.”

The Jazz Bins trio is rounded out in its lineup by the talented Joe Dyson on drums, who, while mastering a variety of contemporary styles, always filters those influences through the distinctive swing of his native New Orleans.
