So many locals Athenians are waiting by patience the month of May as most of the summer cinemas open and they have the opportunity to watch a movie that they didn’t see the winter, a new release of an old movie, or just the new movies of the season. So, let’s explore some of the neighborhoods of Athens after watching a movie in their open-air cinema:

Thissio-Monastiraki: Cine Thission is already famous and awarded as one of the best summer cinemas of the world and probably the most central, and you could visit it after your souvenir shopping from the flea market of Monastiraki. But it has one disadvantage: It is not sure that you could watch the movie, as from your seat you will have a night view of Acropolis during the movie. So what you will choose?

Syntagma: Cine Aegli is the open-air cinema inside National Garden and next to Zappeion. So it is perfect after your afternoon walk in the park, and probably after a greek coffee in the traditional coffeeshop that exists there.

Petralona: Cine Zefyros is an open air cinema known from locals for its classic and old movies that is playing every summer. So if you are enthusiasted for Casablanca, Breakfast in Tiffany’s or other black and white films, this is your place. And of course after the movie, you should taste local food from one of the restaurants of the area as it is also known from locals as one of the best areas to eat.

Kypseli: Cine Stella, an open-air cinema that reopened recently after many years is your perfect chance to discover Kypseli, the artistic neighborhood of Athens. After the movie, you can drink a wine in the bistrot of Fokionos Negri Square.

Exarcheia: Another must stop in Athens should be in Exarchia area and Cine Riviera. Maybe here you could find another screening of the Big Blue Movie that usually it is played every year, but also new movies. And of course, an after-movie beer in Mavros Gatos Bar or some local dishes in Ama Lachei, the Greek Restaurant that was transformed from a school to restaurant and now has some delicious dishes.

Ampelokipoi: In Ampelokipoi area, you should visit Cine Panathinea, one of the oldest cinemas of the area, close to Ampelokipoi metro and almost opposite to Pedion Areos park and also close to Teniako restaurant, to taste some real local food experience.

Patisia: Cine Ilektra is another summer cinema than reopened recently, also plays usually old movies or their new edition. Don’t forget to visit Aur Revoir Bar, the oldest bar of Athens, that even Frank Sinatra had its drink once.

And one last suggestion coming from Greek Islands. If you ever visit Kimolos, and you should visit it, don’t forget to visit Cine Kalisperitis, the first cinema that… is moving around the island and every screening is located in a different location. Even inside the sea. So, don’t miss this chance!
