Today is one of the hottest days of May in Athens, so it is a good day to prepare for the summer. And what’s better from planning where to swim close in Athens -answers like Aegina, Poros, Spetses, Hydra, Euboea, and other places out from Attica are not in the list (for now). So, let’s discover the most beautiful beaches of Athens (yes, they exist!) and plan your trip including swimming with a view on Poseidon Temple in Sounio. On our travel site, you can even find some useful tools to plan your next sea trip and even book your umbrella on the beach you will choose!

Schinias Beach: This is for sure one of the most impressive beach close to Athens, as it is connected with the pine forest of the area and the landscape is really unique. A vast, sandy beach, ideal for families, and with many really good options to eat there after your swim.

Ramnounta Beach: If you are more adventurous person, you should definitely visit this beach. You will need a small, medium-difficulty, hike to go there, but as you arrive you would think that you are in a cycladic beach with blue crystal clear sea, and also an important archaeological site next to the beach.

Sesi beach: If you are not so adventurous to go to Ramnounta beach but you still want something reminds you an island, then Sesi beach is for you. Especially the “Small Sesi”, which is next to the main beach, and if you arrive early you will find it without many people. Or even only for you.

Keratea area: On the other side of Attica, in Keratea area, you will also find some beaches that worth to visit them, even on weekends. Porto Ennea, Vromopousi, Kakia Skala are some of the choices.

Porto Rafti: If you are more romantic person and you are travelling as a couple, you should visit for sure the favourite couple-beach of Attica: the “lovers-cave”, as it is called and known to Greeks. I guess there is no need to explain why.

Sounio & Saronida area: This is the end point of Attica, this is the place you could probably find the most clean and clear sea of Attica and swim in the main beach of Sounio with THE view on Temple Poseidon. You can have a stop also at Kape Beach, the most known “secret beach” of Attica, or at Harakas, Thymari or Legrena beach where you can relax all day long and enjoy Athens Riviera from the sea.

Important note: None of these beaches are easily accessible from the city center with public transport. So, we definitely suggest to book a transfer to ejoy the day at fullest or ask us details if you want to find the easiest way to go to one (or more) of those!
