The Thursday of the second week of the Triduum (Kreatini) is called Tsiknopempth, because on this day all houses roast meat or render the fat from pork and the fragrant smoke (tsikna) is everywhere. So it is from this tsikna that Thursday is named and is called TsiknoeThursday.

On TsiknoPempti, the events of Carnival actually begin, which culminate with the Koulouma on Clean Monday. Similar celebrations exist in Germany (Schmutziger Donnerstag = Greasy Thursday) and in New Orleans, USA (Mardi Gras = Greasy Tuesday), which are combined with carnival events.
