The Thursday of the second week of the Triduum (Kreatini) is called Tsiknopempth, because on this day all houses roast meat or render the fat from pork and the fragrant smoke (tsikna) is everywhere. So it is from this tsikna that Thursday is named and is called TsiknoeThursday.

On TsiknoPempti, the events of Carnival actually begin, which culminate with the Koulouma on Clean Monday. Similar celebrations exist in Germany (Schmutziger Donnerstag = Greasy Thursday) and in New Orleans, USA (Mardi Gras = Greasy Tuesday), which are combined with carnival events.

So, today, the best think you can do as you are wondering in Athens is to book your diner in a grill restaurant, but you probably find some grilling events in athenian squares, offering souvlakia.

You can even try to taste the special menu of the day at the restaurant of Acropolis Museum
