The Thursday of the second week of the Triduum (Kreatini) is called Tsiknopempti (Ash Thursday), because on this day all houses roast meat or render the fat from pork and the fragrant smoke (tsikna) is everywhere. So it is from this “tsikna” that Thursday is named and is called Tsiknoe Thursday. From today, the events of Carnival actually begin, which culminate with the Koulouma on Clean Monday.
