In Athens, you can experience one in a three-level underground parking garage—before it even officially opens! With parking shortages being a constant challenge in the city center, new parking spaces are always welcome. But turning one into an art gallery before its grand opening? That’s something you don’t want to miss!
The exhibition “Ephemeral Party” is an original project, inspired by Filippos Tsagridis-Panagopoulos and co-curated with Katerina Hatzi, and highlights an everyday space of public use as a lively field of meeting and exchange of ideas.
It is a group exhibition of 19 artists that includes works of various media and materials (painting, sculpture, video, visual installations, performative actions). Works by older artists intertwine with younger ones to give an insight into the ephemeral, through dreams, time and memories.
A few days before it officially opens, Carco Parking will become an exhibition space for contemporary art, hosting works by well-known Greek artists such as Giorgos Bouzianis and Yannis Tsarouchis. Some performances will even take place in the space, the performance action “Bingo Players” by Yannis Varela, in “dialogue” with the works. In addition to the contemporary art works, the exhibition has also used a poem by K.P. Cavafy, “The Candles”, which deals with the specific theme.
The exhibition is spread over 3 floors and hosts three different themes: the ephemeral of dreams (1st floor), time (2nd floor) and memories (3rd floor). The works are placed in the most unlikely places and the visitor is invited to wander around the Carco Parking spaces and discover them.
