Corfu, an island off Greece’s northwest coast, is an ideal spring destination for travelers seeking mountainous coastal landscapes and adventure. This spring, vacationers can attend the Corfu Garden Festival, featuring stunning floral displays and gardening workshops, the Corfu International Music Festival, which celebrates classical and contemporary music, and the Corfu International Film Festival which showcases local and international films. For a unique experience, travelers can participate in an apiary seminar in Corfu, for the chance to be a beekeeper for a day.
And of course, don’t forget the famous tradition Botides which takes place every Easter: Corfu transforms into a vibrant hub of unique traditions, with the most iconic being the “Botides” ceremony on Holy Saturday. At exactly 11:00 AM, residents throw large clay pots, known as botides, from their balconies onto the streets below, creating a spectacular display of flying shards and echoing crashes. This custom, rooted in Venetian times, symbolizes the welcoming of spring and the casting away of evil spirits. The event is accompanied by the joyful ringing of church bells and the spirited performances of philharmonic bands, making it a must-see celebration for visitors seeking an authentic and exhilarating Easter experience in Greece. So, have in mind that if you want to visit the island during Easter, you should plan and book your trip many months ago.
