Athens Transformed into a Film Set

Last month, Athens and its surrounding areas became a vibrant film set for two major productions. The first is the Greek TV series for the Greek movie platform Ertflix Megali Chimera, based on the acclaimed novel by Karagatsis, a renowned Greek writer born in the early 20th century. The story, which recently found great success on the theatrical stage in Athens, is now being adapted for television. Imagine sipping your coffee at a café on Dionysiou Areopagitou pedestrian street, only to find yourself surrounded by horse-drawn carriages and actors dressed in period costumes—Athens has truly been transported to another era!

The second major production is The Odyssey, an international film directed by Christopher Nolan. Filming is still underway across Greece, with recent shoots taking place at the ancient castles of Corinth and Nestor in Pylos, Messinia. These historic locations, steeped in myth and legend, provide a stunning and authentic backdrop for this highly anticipated film. The release date of the movie will on summer 2026.
